Batman’s First Sidekick Was A Villain

However, it was an unexpected partnership that enabled Bruce Wayne to eliminate a dangerous criminal, although it inadvertently paved the way for another.

In “The Penguin #6” by Tom King and Stevan Subic, we glimpse into the Penguin’s early days.

Before Oswald Cobblepot became the notorious crime boss of Gotham, he was under Carmine Falcone’s employment.

Tired of Falcone’s mistreatment, Cobblepot eventually sought out Batman’s help.

The Penguin Assisted Batman in Purifying Gotham City

The Penguin thought he had left his life of crime behind when he pretended to die and moved away from Gotham City.

Sadly, things didn’t go as planned.

The U.S. government caught him and made him an asset they could control.

They sent him back to Gotham to take over the criminal underworld again, and he had to gather a team to help him.

Some joined him willingly, while he had to persuade others through threats or blackmail.

Now, Penguin is ready to reclaim his city.

Many remember Batman’s early days as him battling the city’s criminals alone or maybe with Robin by his side.

However, there’s a lesser-known story from those times.

Penguin and Batman

Penguin, before becoming Batman’s foe, actually helped him deal a significant blow to the Falcone crime family.

Although driven by his own ambitions for power and influence, Penguin’s assistance was crucial. Without it, Batman might not have been able to defeat Falcone.

The Needed Companion for Batman, Not the Deserved One

In the comic, when Batman first started, he found it hard to establish himself. He realized that the only way to outsmart Falcone was by getting inside information.

With some help, they made significant changes in Gotham and defeated one of the most notorious gangsters in the city.

However, this allowed Cobblepot to rise to power and become the Penguin.

It wasn’t the perfect situation, but with the Penguin’s help, Batman managed to achieve one of his early successes by catching Falcone.
